Home Appraisal Los AngelesThe Office of Real Estate Appraisers regulates, controls and administers the licensing of home appraisal practitioners in California. Last year, The Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of the Appraisal Foundation OREA decided to upgrade the licensing requirements of appraisers beginning in 2008. OREA controls home appraisal services in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland and all other California communities. There 4 classifications of appraisers that may participate in home appraisal: Real estate appraiser trainees, Residential Real Estate Appraisers, Certified Residential Real Estate Appraisers and Certified General Real Estate Appraisers. In 2008 these will be the licensing criteria: Real Estate Appraiser Trainees who must have 150 hours of education. There is no experience requirements however they must be supervised by an OREA licensed real estate appraiser. Residential Real Estate Appraisers are most likely to be involved in your home appraisal. In 2008 they will need to have completed 150 hours of appraisal education plus 2,000 hours appraisal experience (accumulated over at least a 12 month period). Certified Residential Real Estate Appraisers must hold a associate degree although equivalent educational credentials will be accepted. In 2008, they will be required to have 200 hours of classroom education and have 2,500 of real estate appraisal experience over a minimum period of 2.5 years. Certified General Real Estate Appraisers must hold a bachelors degree and have completed 300 hours of classroom training in real property appraisal and have performed 300 hours of real estate appraisal.
